In this year’s Legal Update, attorney Karen McCay will provide an overview of the new legal requirements impacting affordable housing providers in California due to new laws enacted in 2024.
Topics that will be covered include new security deposit requirements, changes to screening fee laws and how they may impact lotteries and waitlist openings, extension of the rent reporting requirements (and a review of existing law and minor changes made to same), revised deadlines for balcony inspections, a high-level update on implementation of HOTMA and new VAWA requirements as well as new California domestic violence protections.
Ms. McCay will also address new employment laws impacting operations including changes to jury, court and victim time off protections, prohibitions on employer “captive audience” meetings, and limits on inquiries pertaining to driver’s licenses during recruitment.
In addition, our advocate, Rae Beam, will be discussing significant bills pending or anticipated in Sacramento this year.
